Clumsy Hans: a playful oak trivet by Nis Hauge

Clumsy Hans is an oak trivet (hot pad) designed by Nis Hauge. It protects your table from heat marks left by hot pots and dishes, and it does more than that: it adds a cheerful, sculptural touch to the dining table while it works.

Clumsy Hans was first produced in early 1996 and relaunched in 2016 in close collaboration with Nis Hauge. In 2017, the MoMA Design Stores in New York and Tokyo added it to their collection.

Play at the table is allowed

Nis Hauge likes to play when he designs. His idea was a functional, recognizable product that doubles as a playful sculpture on the dining table or in a quiet corner of the home.

He invites everyone at the table to play and explore the dining table's unconventional possibilities by creating their own variations of Clumsy Hans. Playful diners love it while they wait for the food to arrive.
